Prakash industries Ltd (PIL), part of ‘Surya Roshni’ group was started in the year 1980. It is now a partially integrated steel producer located in the mineral rich belt of Chhattisgarh. PIL currently has sponge iron capacity of 6 lakh tpa (tonnes per annum), billets 5.5 lakh tpa and finished steel 7.5 lakh tpa. The company uses sponge iron & billets for the production of its end product i.e. finished steel. Recognizing the potential to tap the waste gases let out by the sponge iron kiln, the company also installed a power generation plant with waste heat recovery boilers. The company produces 100 MW of captive power. Understanding the importance of in house generation of power, raw materials as well as value addition through steel, the company has taken the necessary steps for backward and forward integration.
