Tech shares drive Japan's stock market
(17:33, 04 Sep 2026)
The Nikkei 225 increased by 1.26% to close at 65,021 on Friday, ending a four-day decline. This surge occurred as investors lowered expectations for a US Federal Reserve rate hike after Fed Governor Christopher Waller indicated support for keeping rates steady if inflation decreases. Meanwhile, attention is on the Bank of Japan for a possible rate increase in September to control inflation. Notable movements in the yen were observed, gaining up to 3% over two sessions. Technology and AI stocks led gains, with Kioxia Holdings rising 5.4%, SoftBank Group up 11.8%, and Taiyo Yuden increasing 6.4%. However, overall for the week, the Nikkei fell 2.08% due to rising oil prices and global bond yields impacting Japanese stocks.
