State Stimulus buoys Chinese indices
(17:56, 23 Oct 2026)
Chinese equities demonstrated a recovery on Friday, underpinned by state-sponsored investment bolstering market confidence. The Shanghai Composite advanced 0.89% to settle at 3,690.5, whereas the Shenzhen Component registered a 2.79% increase to 11,673.8, retracing from a greater than two-month trough seen in the prior session.

Net buying of nine exchange-traded funds popular among state-backed investors totaled CNY 60 billion ($8.99 billion). The E Fund ChiNext ETF registered CNY 15 billion in inflows, marking its largest inflow since July. Aggregate net inflows into these ETFs amounted to CNY 46 billion on Thursday, the highest figure observed since the April 2025 market downturn.

Regulators are intensifying interventions aimed at mitigating downward pressure and bolstering market stability after a deceleration in the advance spurred by stimulus initiatives in late 2024. AI-related equities demonstrated a recovery, with Cambricon Technologies up 5.46%, SMIC advancing 4.01% and Zhongji Innolight rising 3.82%. Notwithstanding Friday’s gains, the Shanghai Composite registered a weekly decline of 0.69%, as the Shenzhen Component decreased 1.09%.
