Local stocks see modest losses

The key equity barometers traded with marginal losses in early trade. Nifty opened at 24362 and hit a high of 24365 in first half hour of trade. Nifty Metal, Nifty Auto and Nifty Media shares declined, while Nifty Consumer Durables shares advanced.
At 09:30 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, posted modest losses of 268.39 points or 0.34% to 77,811.57. The Nifty 50 index moved lower by 74.10 points or 0.30% to 24,321.75.
The broader market performed better than frontline indices. The BSE 150 MidCap Index lost 0.30% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index edged lower by 0.15%.
The market breadth was negative. On the BSE, 2054 shares rose and 2451 shares retreated. A total of 230 shares were unchanged.
Nifty Metal index shed 1.47%. The index has moved higher by 3.43% in last one month and recorded robust gains of 39.46% over last one year. Natl. Aluminium, shedding 6.25%, led the losers followed by Hindustan Copper, edging lower 4.66% and Hindustan Zinc, down 3.30%, respectively. Out of 15 index constituents, 12 are reporting loss today.
Nifty Auto index moved lower by 0.76%. The index has gained 8.93% in last one month and surged 21.84% over last one year. Tata Motors PVeh, losing 4.54%, led the losers followed by Exide Inds., slipping 1.31% and M & M, easing 0.94%, respectively. Out of 15 index constituents, 12 are reporting loss today.
Nifty Consumer Durables index inched up 0.61% to 40549. The index has edged up 4.28% in last one month and added 8.78% over last one year. LG Electronics, moving higher 7.89%, led the gainers followed by Bata India, edging up 2.83% and Voltas, gaining 2.26%, respectively. Out of 13 index constituents, 9 are reporting gains today.
In NIFTY500, Welspun Living is the top gainer today, recording robust gains of 8.67% to Rs 173.65. The counter is sharply higher by 39.72% in last one year. It recorded an average volume quantity of 155136.50 in last five sessions compared to 142600.79 over last one month.
Asian markets edged lower on Friday. China’s Shanghai composite is down 0.44%, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng is trading lower by 0.96%. Japan’s Nikkei 225 is marginally higher by 0.40%.
