Local stocks finished slightly lower

The key domestic indices ended marginally lower. Nifty Media, Nifty Realty and Nifty Chemicals shares gained, while Nifty IT and Nifty Consumer Durables shares declined.


As per provisional closing data, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, moved lower by 329.91 points or 0.44% to 74,529.08. The Nifty 50 index edged lower by 85.30 points or 0.36% to 23,329.


The broader market performed better than frontline indices. The BSE 150 MidCap Index inched up 0.02% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index posted modest losses of 0.25%.


The market breadth was weak. On the BSE, 2503 shares rose and 2651 shares retreated. A total of 221 shares were unchanged.


HDFC Bank Ltd was the top traded stock in NIFTY50 index today, recording a quantity of 354.84 lakh shares and posted a modest rise of 1.79% compared to last one-week’s average daily volume. The stock is up around 1.73% in last one-month and has dropped sharply 23.30% over last one year.


Eternal Ltd was the second highest traded stock in NIFTY50 index today, recording a quantity of 222.77 lakh shares and saw a sharp spurt of 24.68% compared to last one-week’s average daily volume. The stock has gained around 2.41% in last one-month and has eased 1.74% over last one year.


Index action


The Nifty Media index edged higher by 1.21% to 1574.7 today. The index has rallied by 3.46% in last one week and has eased by 3.52% over last one month. It has slipped by 4.38% in last one year. Sun TV Network Ltd (up 7.11%), Saregama India Ltd (up 3.10%), Prime Focus Ltd (up 1.36%), Nazara Technologies Ltd (up 0.87%) and Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd (up 0.68%) went up.


The Nifty IT index moved lower by 0.86% to 28582.1 today. The index has lost 2.45% in last one week and has fallen 5.57% over last one month. It declined sharply by 18.79% in last one year. LTM Ltd (down 2.84%), Persistent Systems Ltd (down 1.52%), Mphasis Ltd (down 1.36%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd (down 1.11%) and Infosys Ltd (down 0.88%) moved down.


The Nifty Consumer Durables index edged lower by 0.64% to 37962.2 today. The index is up 0.65% in last one week and has declined 5.85% over last one month. It is down around 2.28% in last one year. Voltas Ltd (down 3.62%), PG Electroplast Ltd (down 3.05%), Blue Star Ltd (down 2.56%), Dixon Technologies (India) Ltd (down 1.99%) and Kajaria Ceramics Ltd (down 1.41%) dropped.


The Nifty Media index rose for a third session in a row today. Sun TV Network Ltd (up 7.11%), Saregama India Ltd (up 3.10%), Prime Focus Ltd (up 1.36%), Nazara Technologies Ltd (up 0.87%) and Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd (up 0.68%) gained.
